Heritage & Culture

History of Pandharpur Wari

The Pandharpur Wari is an 800-year-old pilgrimage tradition in Maharashtra. Pilgrims, known as Warkaris, travel to the Vithoba Temple in Pandharpur, singing devotional songs and carrying palanquins (Palkhis) of saints, notably Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram.

The pilgrimage covers hundreds of kilometers on foot over 21 days, embodying equality, devotion, and community brotherhood, transcending all barriers of caste and status.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) aims to develop student volunteers' character through community service. At the Wari, our mission is to provide selfless aid, ensure safety, and improve facilities for the millions of walking pilgrims, adhering strictly to the motto 'Not Me But You'.

Our Vision

To ensure a safe, clean, and spiritually uplifting pilgrimage experience for every Warkari through structured volunteer support and seamless coordination with local authorities.

Key Objectives

  • Deploy volunteers at crucial transit and resting points along the Palkhi route.
